Presentation of the FramingNano Governance Platform in Italy is taking place on March 16 2010 in Rome, Italy.
The workshop, jointly organised by AIRI/Nanotec IT and Istituto Superiore di Sanità (National Institute of Health), is one of six events that will be held in Europe to present the final results of FramingNano.

The workshop aims to:

• present the FramingNano Governance Platform
• illustrate and discuss national activities in nanotechnology regulation and governance
• discuss the implementation of the Governance Platform
• foster dialogue and synergies among stakeholders

Talks from representatives of national authorities and organisations involved in nanotechnology governance and regulation, and also international experts on the matter, are foreseen.

National policy makers and regulatory bodies, industry representatives, business associations, researchers, NGOs and those interested in the responsible development of nanotechnologies are invited to attend.

German FramingNano Workshop, 24 March 2010, Frankfurt

There are more than 1000 consumer products containing nanomaterials on the market worldwide and, with this continuing growth in the application of nanotechnologies, there is a more urgent need than ever for an effective framework of governance that ensures public safety and environmental protection whilst at the same time facilitating a responsible development of nanotechnology and promoting innovation.

The FramingNano Project has developed a nanotechnology governance framework that is designed to meet these challenges and which takes into account the views of key societal stakeholders. The FramingNano Governance Platform addresses key needs such as environmental health and safety (EHS) and ethical, legal and social issues (ELSI), as well as the challenges of international cooperation and organisational implementation, and suggests possible ways forward for a governance of nanotechnology that facilitates the rapid innovation intrinsic to this technology coupled with a high level of public and environmental protection.

The FramingNano German Workshop will be held at the Mercure Frankfurt Messe Voltastr. 29, 60486 Frankfurt/Main on 24 March 2010 and will provide a unique opportunity to explore the key principles underpinning nanotechnology governance and to discuss possible new models based on the FramingNano Platform that can support the particularly complex R&D landscape in Germany. The Workshop will be of interest to all concerned with the responsible development of this vitally important enabling technology.

A programme is in preparation and will be posted on this website shortly.

The FramingNano German Workshop is free to attend but requires online registration >>   or contact (+44 (0)141 303 8444) to register.

Can your organisation assist?

Due to the complexity of the R&D infrastructure for nanotechnology in Germany the FramingNano Project invites expressions of interest from suitable German organisations to assist in the local advertising and promotion of this Workshop. Interested organisations should possess an comprehensive and up-to-date mailing list of nanotechnology contacts in Germany, particularly those with an interest in governance, to whom details of the event may be disseminated.

There is a limited budget available within the Project to support this activity.

Interested organisations should contact Richard Moore of the Institute of Nanotechnology in the first instance.
